Western black rhino declared extinct
Africa’s western black rhino is now officially extinct according the latest review of animals and plants by the world’s largest conservation network.
The subspecies of the black rhino — which is classified as “critically endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species — was last seen in western Africa in 2006.
The IUCN warns that other rhinos could follow saying Africa’s northern white rhino is “teetering on the brink of extinction” while Asia’s Javan rhino is “making its last stand” due to continued poaching and lack of conservation.
‘Lack of conservation’ includes ‘lack of habitat’ … due to thousands of hectares every day being replaced with Palm Oil Plantations for you and me, and by eating foods that use palm oil as an ingredient, Western consumers are directly fueling the destruction of orangutan habitat and sensitive ecosystems.
If the current rate of habitat decline continues, the Sumatran orangutan may become the first of the great apes living today to go extinct in the wild. A new UNEP/GRASP report warns that local populations in parts of Sumatra could disappear as early as 2015.
Educate yourself NOW and do your best to STOP your direct funding of this habitat destruction and extinction of the Orangutans, Asian Rhino, Asian Elephant & Asian Tiger…
